Marino Community Hall Grand Opening Celebrates Local Connections and Creativity
On Saturday, June 28, the Marino community came together in a vibrant celebration to mark the long-awaited Grand Opening of the newly redeveloped Marino Community Hall. With more than 800 people in attendance, the day was a lively showcase of local talent, community connection, and cultural respect.
The formal speechers was compered by Tony Harrison, CEO of the City of Marion, The Welcome to Country was given by Kaurna Elder, Uncle Tamaru.
A series of speeches acknowledged the significance of the hall’s redevelopment and the community effort behind it. Louise Miller-Frost MP, Federal Member for Boothby, Alex Dighton MP, State Member for Black, Mayor Kris Hanna, and Rob George, Chair of the Marino Community Hall Management Committee, all spoke with pride and optimism about the hall’s role in the area’s future.
Attendees were then invited to participate in the Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle Tamaru.
Throughout the day, visitors enjoyed a diverse and engaging program of entertainment and activities. Highlights included:
A colourful art exhibition by the Marion Art Group, where five paintings were sold on the day.
Energetic demonstrations by Aerokids, KatKow Yoga, and GlowFIT, showcasing health and movement opportunities for all ages.
Information stands hosted by Venture Theatre and the Marino Repair Café, connecting attendees with local initiatives.
City of Marion Libraries hosted a fun-packed children’s area with face painting, colouring-in, and storytime sessions.
A buzzing mini-market by The Little Marino Market, featuring local makers and stallholders.
Delicious food and refreshments, including a BBQ hosted by the 5049 Neighbour Trailer and free coffee and treats from the café.
The Grand Opening of the Marino Community Hall not only celebrated the completion of a vital new space, but also shone a spotlight on the strength, diversity, and creativity of the local community. The newly opened hall promises to be a hub for connection, physical activity and collaboration for years to come.
