Kingston Park Kiosk

After many years of campaigning on behalf of the 5049 community we are pleased that a new kiosk has finally been built on the Kingston Park foreshore. Kingston Park had been served by a permanent café for almost 70 years until the previous building was closed by Council in 2014, citing maintenance issues.

The new building, located in the corner of the Brighton Beachfront Holiday Park, includes indoor dining for 40 patrons, 42 seats in a shaded outdoor area, a take-away servery, and ambulant and disabled toilets. The building is modern and functional as befits its seaside location and includes attractive aboriginal design features.

Construction started in May 2023 and was completed in February 2024 at a total project cost of $1.4 million. Seller Door Pty Ltd were awarded the contract to operate the facility and the kiosk opened in March 2024 under the name “Nest”.

In the lead up to the project’s approval in April 2022, 5049 Coastal Community made a number of submissions and deputations to Council which included suggestions on design and amenity. We undertook a foreshore people movement survey as part of the feasibility study for the project’s business case. We thank Mayor Amanda Wilson, and Elected Members, particularly Annette Bradshaw, for supporting the project. We also thank Council’s project managers, Ross Oates and Matt Rechner, and the team at Aspect Studios for designing and delivering a wonderful new asset for the 5049 community.
