These groups dedicate their time and effort to specific goals, campaigns and projects under the overarching umbrella of the 5049 Coastal Community Association’s strategic plan and according to defined Association protocols. They carry out a broad range of activities: from working to keep in touch with all levels of government and other organisations to represent the interests of residents; organising community events to bring people together; to carrying out environmental projects.
A team leader coordinates the group’s work – including to seek funding opportunities for a specific area of interest or concern, canvass residents who wish to be involved, achieve a particular goal and campaign actively where appropriate.
The 5049 CC Task Groups can count many achievements thanks to their work – have a look at our information on Campaigns and Projects. If you are interested in participating or chatting with someone about their work, contact the team leader or email ‘Attention task group leader’ to 5049communicator@gmail.com.

Seacliff Park Development
The Association and the community support the development in principle as a potentially positive contribution; however we recognise our ability to have limited to no influence over the outcome, due to historical experience and the scale of the development. However we will continue to monitor and seek opportunity for influence within our capacity; and reserve the right to support direct action by the community if the need arises. However, as always the devil is in the details.
Local Environment
Liaises with and supports dedicated environmental groups in the local and broader area where issues impact on our community. Shines a light on matters of importance that require broadcasting to our members and stakeholders with a call to action where appropriate. Seeks funding, organises a team and carries out specific projects.
Liaison City of Holdfast Bay
Meets regularly with Council and Administration to discuss the status of projects in Seacliff and Kingston Park. It lobbies on behalf of the community for better amenity and improved facilities in this area.
Two major projects that have advanced to the construction stage in 2023 are the Kingston Park Kiosk and the Seacliff Plaza Amenities Block. Future projects supported by the Task Group include the Kingston Park Reserve re-development, stage 2 of the Seacliff Plaza redevelopment, Brighton Beachfront Holiday Park improvements, environmental initiatives (including tree and Pine Gully rejuvenation) and a range of maintenance, road and safety issues.
Liaison City of Marion
Meets regularly with Coastal Ward Councillors regarding Marino and Seacliff Park (Cr Sarah Luscombe as the designated association contact and occasionally Cr Ian Crossland) The group monitors the general amenity and functioning of the area as well as council activities via the website and on occasions attendance at Council meetings. The group reports any major or minor issues raised with them by the community where appropriate, with Council through the agreed channels. The group will also liaise with other relevant task groups and report to the Steering committee on activities and if necessary seek approvals monthly.
Current focus:
- Marino Community Hall
- Seacliff Park Development
- Hilltop Hub on McConnell campaign
Kind Neighbours
We aim to get you connected to your local community through participating in events or in a volunteering role. Research has shown that positive relationships with our neighbours affects our well-being, increases our happiness and boosts resilience. Our ‘Kind Neighbour’ program is creating increased community resilience and well-being. We help our residents find new ways to connect with their neighbours, through events that bring people together in a purposeful way. If you’d like further information, email Judy at 5049communicator@gmail.com.
History and Heritage:
This group’s focus is to promote and share local history through research and presentations. There is a strong focus on oral/visual history from local elders
Liaison State and Federal Government:
Meets on an as needed basis with our local State Member for Black, and our Federal Member for Boothby. As required, lobbies for improvements in our area. Seeks to maintain positive relations to facilitate awareness of our activities and priorities, and support for our activities. Regularly reviews grant opportunities with state and federal agencies, and facilitates applications.
Communications:
The team dedicates effort to the ongoing maintenance of the 5049CC website, thanks to a grant from the City of Holdfast Bay and the website development expertise of DIY Digital. It coordinates the production on the 5049 Communicator newsletter, delivered to 2400 households in our community. For both of these vehicles the team canvasses newsworthy articles from community organisations and government agencies, and relevant residents.
